OpenAI announced a series of leadership changes effective immediately. Fidji Simo, CEO of AGI deployment, will take medical leave for several weeks due to a neuroimmune condition, while Kate Rouch, chief marketing officer, is stepping down to focus on her health. Brad Lightcap, chief operating officer, is transitioning to a special projects role, and Denise Dresser will assume his prior responsibilities, with a search for a permanent replacement to follow. Greg Brockman will oversee product development. In an internal memo, Simo explained that her leave is necessary to address her health, noting that the company has a leadership team ready to continue execution. Brockman will lead product, including the super app effort, while Jason Kwon, Sarah Friar and Denise Dresser will manage business operations. Gary Briggs will serve as interim CMO and will coordinate the search for Rouch’s successor, with input from Rouch during her leave. Lightcap will shift focus to special projects reporting to CEO Sam Altman, and his previous duties in government relations and OpenAI for Countries will be transferred to the strategy organization. OpenAI spokesperson Elana Widmann said the company remains focused on advancing frontier research, growing its user base of nearly one billion, and supporting enterprise customers. The leadership adjustments aim to sustain OpenAI’s momentum as it pursues growth and product development.
