ScrollPods, a macOS application that enables scrolling by tilting the head while using compatible AirPods, was released in November 2023 and recently highlighted by its creator, Ahmed Mohamed, an Austrian developer.

The app is intended to let users navigate webpages, documents and other scrollable content without moving their hands from the keyboard, and is presented as a supplemental tool rather than a replacement for existing scrolling methods.

ScrollPods requires macOS 14 or later and works with AirPods 3rd generation or newer, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, and Beats Fit Pro. The app is free to download, and its Mac App Store listing states that it does not collect user data. Users can adjust sensitivity, scroll acceleration, and the speed at which scrolling stops, and can also scroll by tilting left or right or reverse the direction of movement.

Mohamed said the concept originated from a need to scroll while caring for a baby, aiming for a hands‑free experience. He emphasized that the app was not created primarily for accessibility, though feedback from the accessibility community has indicated its usefulness for people with limited hand mobility, and he noted that future updates will place greater emphasis on accessibility features.

Regarding potential integration into Apple products, Mohamed said he does not anticipate Apple adopting the feature soon.

The app remains available for download, and Mohamed has not finalized a pricing model, indicating that a free tier may continue.
