The United States conducted a series of strikes against Iranian military sites on Sunday evening, continuing a pattern of attacks that began earlier in the week. Centcom said the strikes, which began at 17:00 ET, hit more than 140 targets, including air‑defence systems, coastal radar sites and missile and drone capabilities. Iranian state media reported that one person was killed and four were injured in southwestern Iran. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it responded by striking United States military bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain. The Strait of Hormuz, through which about 20% of global oil and LNG passes, has been a focal point of the dispute. Iran said it had closed the waterway, while the United States asserted that the strait remained open for commercial shipping. Oil prices rose on Monday, with Brent crude increasing 4.3% to $79.26 per barrel and US‑traded oil rising 4.3% to $74.50 per barrel. The renewed exchanges have put in jeopardy an interim ceasefire agreement reached last month that aimed to reopen the strait. President Donald Trump said the Iranian attacks ended the ceasefire, while Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused the United States of violating the agreement.
