Apple released the first public betas of iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS Golden Gate, and related software, allowing anyone with compatible devices to download and test the updates, and simultaneously launched its annual Back to School promotion for education customers.

In the United States the promotion offers a $150 gift card with the purchase of a new MacBook Pro and a $100 gift card with a new MacBook Air, iPad Pro, or iPad Air, while the iPad mini, entry‑level iPad, MacBook Neo, desktop Macs, and other models are excluded; similar offers apply in additional countries with varying incentives.

Apple filed a lawsuit against OpenAI alleging that the company used stolen Apple trade secrets to develop its own AI hardware and to recruit Apple employees, to which OpenAI responded that it has no interest in other companies' trade secrets and is not aware of any merit in the allegations.

Analysts expect a refreshed iPad mini with an OLED display to arrive by October, and anticipate updates to the iPad lineup and new Apple Pencil models in early 2027; Apple is also said to be developing new home devices, including an updated Apple TV 4K, HomePod, and HomePod mini, to support the forthcoming Siri AI features in iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27.

Bloomberg reported that Apple may forgo the M6 Pro and Max variants, accelerating the release of the M7 family, which could include up to 1.5 TB of unified memory for AI tasks; the company also announced price increases on several products ranging from 10 to 50 percent and issued security updates for iOS, iPadOS and macOS following a manufacturing‑related cyber incident.

Apple invites users to subscribe to its newsletter for weekly recaps of technology news and upcoming product announcements.
