Federal employees can now download TikTok on government devices, the Department of Justice said.
A 2022 law barred the app on official equipment, but the DOJ said the restriction no longer applies after TikTok’s U.S. operations were transferred to a joint venture owned by Oracle, Silver Lake and MGX.
Oracle serves as the security partner for the venture, and ByteDance retains a 19.9% stake.
The DOJ memo said President Donald Trump authorized “employees of Executive Branch agencies” to download TikTok on official devices, subject to agency discretion and applicable workplace policies.
The ban had previously taken effect early last year, after which the app experienced a brief outage before Trump repeatedly delayed enforcement and urged providers to restore service.
Agency officials must weigh the decision against internal security guidelines.

Over 80% of Samsung Foundry workers said they plan to leave their jobs, according to a union‑conducted survey of 8,297 employees.
