GoPro founder Nicholas Woodman extended a $20 million loan to the company at a 6.5 percent annual interest rate, according to reports. The loan is intended to keep the company operating while a buyer is sought, as the firm may not survive the year without new capital or a purchaser. In May 2026 the company reported a 26 percent decline in quarterly revenue and a 29 percent drop in unit sales, falling to 313,000 cameras sold. GoPro announced it had hired a financial adviser to review strategic alternatives, a step the CEO said he supports. The company has begun restructuring to cut about 23 percent of its global workforce by the end of 2026. Recent product launches of the Mission 1, Pro and Pro ILS cameras were announced in May, but analysts say the effort may be too late to reverse the decline. GoPro has also pursued opportunities in aerospace and defence, markets that could be worth billions, and its cameras were used on the Artemis II NASA mission earlier this year. Competition from Insta360 has intensified, including a recent loss in a patent dispute. Any prospective buyer would inherit the company’s debt and ongoing challenges. The outcome remains uncertain as the firm continues to seek financing or a sale.
