OpenAI announced a series of usage limit resets for its Codex and ChatGPT Work services for paid subscribers. The resets occurred over the course of a week and included full resets, banked resets, and temporary 2X limits. In total, 35 resets have been recorded, with an average interval of 8.9 days and the longest gap lasting 67.7 days, according to the company's public data. The announcements came amid reports that usage limits had been consumed more quickly than expected for some users. OpenAI said investigations identified specific technical issues, such as a rolled-back optimization that affected cache hit rates and a bug that prevented a promotional 2X increase from applying to a subset of plus and pro users. In response, the company reset limits for all affected accounts and credited additional resets to user balances. OpenAI noted growth in active user numbers, reaching 9 million for Codex and ChatGPT Work combined. The company said the frequent resets were part of ongoing efforts to maintain system stability and to acknowledge milestones such as the one‑year anniversary of Codex and surpassing three million weekly users. Mitigation steps included a system rewrite to track usage and backfill usage data, as well as temporary capacity expansions to support higher demand. OpenAI said it would continue monitoring performance and adjust limits as needed.
