Apple confirmed it has removed three of the apps that San Francisco city attorney David Chiu had asked it and Google to take down, saying the apps violate its App Review Guidelines that prohibit software designed to generate, distribute or consume pornography. The company said it has also begun terminating the developer accounts of the removed apps. Chiu’s office identified 13 apps capable of creating non-consensual nude images; Apple’s statement did not specify which of the 13 were removed beyond the three. The policy applies to any app that produces synthetic nudity without consent. Apple said it rejects such apps during the review process and removes them when flagged by users.
