Research has found that AI‑generated medical accounts on TikTok are attracting millions of views while disseminating unverified health advice, prompting warnings from experts about potential risks to public safety. A study commissioned by the British Medical Association identified the trend, noting that the accounts often present themselves as doctors and share misleading statements about treatments and cures. Dr Emma Runswick, deputy chair of the BMA council, said the content can spread medical myths and promote so‑called miracle cures, which may mislead viewers and affect health decisions. The research highlighted that the videos have amassed tens of millions of views across the platform, with some individual posts reaching hundreds of thousands of views. Health authorities have called for greater oversight of AI‑generated medical content on social media. The findings underscore ongoing concerns about the spread of AI‑generated health misinformation online, and the need for clearer guidelines for content moderation.
