British Prime Minister Andy Burnham will host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in London on Monday, the first visit by a foreign leader to the UK since Burnham took office on July 20.
Zelensky is expected to call for increased defence assistance as both sides intensify drone and missile strikes, with US‑led talks on the conflict stalled and Washington’s focus shifted to the war in the Middle East. The UK has provided about £25 billion ($33 billion) in total support to Ukraine since the 2022 invasion, including £16 billion in direct military aid.
Burnham announced that the UK will share the technology behind a tablet‑sized electronic jamming system called Stone Cloak, which can interfere with Russian air‑defence tracking of drones. The system, developed under a 100‑year partnership agreement signed in January 2025, has already been supplied to Ukrainian forces to preserve drone operations. In addition, Zelensky said he wants to sign a new drone agreement and establish a drone factory in the UK. He noted that Ukraine lacks sufficient missiles to counter Russian ballistic missiles that have strained its air‑defence system. Approximately 200 Ukrainian military personnel are currently in Britain for a maritime security and counter‑mine exercise ahead of potential Black Sea operations. Downing Street said the partnership will also see the integration of Stone Cloak into future UK deep‑strike platforms.
Zelensky is scheduled to travel to Washington on Tuesday for talks with US President Donald Trump and will attend the funeral of Senator Lindsey Graham, a known supporter of Ukraine.
