Fathom Events and Hasbro announced that The Transformers: The Movie will be re‑released in 4K in U.S. and U.K. theaters on September 17. The re‑release will include a new cinematic chapter that will play after the credits. A trailer preview of the additional footage was shown at San Diego Comic‑Con. Tickets will be sold beginning August 7, and some U.S. locations will offer collectible popcorn buckets and drinkware. The film will also be screened in Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and Germany, with more markets to be added later. The 1986 animated feature was originally released by Toei Animation and is based on Hasbro’s toy line. The story follows Autobots led by Optimus Prime in conflict with Decepticons led by Megatron, as the planet Unicron approaches Cybertron. The companies have not disclosed details about the new footage.
