Rockstar has disabled the gambling mini‑games in GTA Online for players accessing the title from Australia.
The restriction followed the implementation of Australia’s online safety code enacted in March 2026, which requires age verification for adult content and classifies games containing simulated gambling as R18+. GTA Online has carried an R18+ rating in Australia since its 2013 release, so the classification itself did not change.
The disabled features include blackjack, slots, poker, roulette, horse racing betting and the Lucky Wheel. All other casino functions remain operational. The change took effect in July 2026, after the introduction of the safety code and after mandatory minimum classifications for gambling‑like content were introduced in September 2024.
Under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001, gambling with real money is illegal in Australia. GTA Online uses in‑game currency purchased with real money to buy casino chips, but those purchases are separate from the chips used in the casino and cannot be exchanged for real money.
The restriction places GTA Online among roughly 50 countries where the casino’s gambling features are unavailable, including Portugal, Poland, Argentina, Greece, Luxembourg, South Africa, South Korea, China and Malta.
Rockstar has not responded to requests for comment, and the broader impact on players remains unclear.
