Boltz, a non‑custodial Bitcoin swap service, announced it is halting operations indefinitely after a series of AI‑assisted hacking attempts over recent months. The company posted the decision on X on Monday, saying it had observed an increase in automated AI‑assisted probing of its infrastructure. Boltz noted that several exploits had been contained, but the speed of attacks outpaced its ability to detect and patch vulnerabilities. Michael Coates, chief information security officer of the Solana Foundation, said the industry faces a tipping point in which human response cannot keep pace with machine‑speed threats and that autonomous defense is needed. PayPerQ, a pay‑per‑prompt AI service that accepts cryptocurrency payments, reported frequent exploits it believes are AI‑driven. Boltz processes atomic swaps between the Bitcoin mainnet and layer solutions such as the Lightning Network and Liquid Network. At the time of the report, the total value locked on the platform was $180,860. Boltz said user funds have not been at risk because swaps are non‑custodial and employ advanced cryptography, and that its API will remain available to process refunds while its support team stays reachable. The company said a careful analysis of the paradigm shift is required and that swap services may not resume shortly.
