German retailer Mindfactory reported that DDR4 motherboards accounted for 9.5% of its total motherboard sales in July 2026, while DDR5 motherboards made up 90.5%. The higher cost of DDR5 memory kits, which have risen to about five times their price a year earlier, has kept many buyers on the DDR5 platform despite the expense. Mindfactory’s July 2026 sales data show that DDR4 sales remained below 10% of total volume. The B550 chipset, part of AMD’s AM4 lineup, remained the most popular DDR4 option, but its share was far smaller than that of the B650 and B850 chipsets from AMD’s AM5 platform. Earlier in the year, DDR4 sales spiked when DDR5 prices became temporarily unaffordable. Since then, prices have stabilized, and consumers have returned to DDR5 despite higher costs. AMD and Intel have attempted to promote DDR4 compatibility by re‑launching older processor lines and announcing upcoming Raptor Lake NEXT and Nova Lake processors, which could offer cheaper alternatives. However, the latest sales figures indicate that upgradeability and performance expectations continue to drive purchases toward DDR5 platforms. Whether the market will see a sustained shift back to DDR4 as pricing evolves remains an open question.
