Tyler Williams, a senior Treasury official who oversaw digital asset policy, left the department on Friday, according to a report by Punchbowl News. Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed the departure in a statement shared with Punchbowl.
Williams joined the Treasury in early 2025 after serving as head of policy at Galaxy Digital. He played a key role in shaping the administration's digital asset agenda, which seeks to position the United States as a prominent hub for cryptocurrency activity.
His departure occurs while Congress remains deadlocked over the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act, a bill intended to create a regulatory framework for cryptocurrency markets.
The bill must achieve 60 votes in the Senate to overcome a filibuster, and Republican leaders have indicated they require Democratic support to advance it.
Bipartisan consensus on the ethics provisions for federal officials included in the bill has not emerged.
Analysts at Bernstein said on Monday that continued delays could heighten regulatory uncertainty and weigh on digital asset prices.
The timing of Williams' exit and the legislative stalemate leave the future of crypto regulation uncertain.
