Valve’s upcoming Steam Frame VR headset may cost more than the Steam Machine, according to a recent estimate. The device is expected to launch before the end of the year, though an official announcement has not been made. Leaker Tyler McVicker projected a base price above $1,100, with potential increases of several hundred dollars due to component cost pressures. Qualcomm processors and NAND storage, which the headset relies on, have become more expensive and harder to source, mirroring broader rises in GPU, CPU, and memory pricing from manufacturers such as TSMC, Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron. The Steam Frame is a standalone platform that lets Steam users stream their library to a virtual screen or run VR titles through an Arm compatibility layer, and it will operate on a custom SteamOS to enable fully wireless use. KitGuru noted that the Valve Index has remained costly since its launch, and VR enthusiasts have generally accepted higher price points, though the impact of the Steam Frame’s price remains uncertain.
