Microsoft will retire its Teams Live Chat feature on October 5, ending new customer messages and hiding existing widgets after August 6 when new embeds were blocked. Launched in March 2025, the service let businesses using Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Standard, and Premium embed a chat widget on their websites and route visitor messages to Teams support channels, with administrators able to set business hours and assign up to 25 agents. In a statement, Microsoft said the decision is part of a focus on newer customer engagement and communication experiences, recommending Dynamics 365 Contact Center and Copilot Studio as alternatives. The company blocked new setups on August 6, instructed customers to remove the widget from their sites, and will hide remaining instances after the October 5 shutdown, though existing Teams data and channels will remain available. The retirement follows earlier deprecations of Teams live events, the Together mode, and other features as Microsoft seeks to streamline the platform.
