West Virginia resident Wesley Jackson was charged with damaging Flock license‑plate reading cameras and with conspiracy to commit a felony. Detectives from the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office filed the charge last month. Jackson pleaded not guilty and posted a $15,000 bond. His attorney and Flock have not responded to requests for comment. Social media users on Facebook posted more than 29,000 comments offering fabricated alibis, such as saying he was counting grass, repairing a roof, playing a video game, changing a tire or giving a dog a treat. The comments echoed a meme that emerged after Luigi Mangione’s 2024 arrest for killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Flock has faced criticism because of concerns that its cameras have been used for police surveillance. The Washington Post reported that at least 50 police officers across the United States have misused the system to monitor former partners, spouses or other personal contacts. The legal proceedings are ongoing and no trial date has been set.
