KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 10 (Reuters) – Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is undergoing medical examinations and procedures and is expected to stay under observation for two days, his aide said on Monday.
Press secretary Tunku Nashrul Abaidah said the examinations are being conducted by a team of medical experts, without providing further details. Anwar, who turned 79 on Monday, has suffered recurring shoulder and back problems and was hospitalized in 2018 for similar issues. He cancelled a trip to Pahang state in November due to back pain and received a clean bill of health after a routine examination in January, according to a hospital statement.
Anwar has been in office since 2022. The statement expressed hope that he will recover and resume his duties soon.
