Alaska Senate candidate Mary Peltola rejected a fundraising email from Kamala Harris, the former vice president and 2024 Democratic presidential candidate, after Harris urged supporters to donate to a political action committee that would split contributions between her organization and Peltola's campaign. The email, sent on Wednesday, did not explicitly endorse Peltola but requested donations to Fight for the People PAC, which Harris created in 2023. Peltola's campaign said she does not seek endorsements from outside Alaska and emphasized its reliance on local union support and volunteer sign-ups. Republican nominee Dan Sullivan's campaign used the email to tie Peltola to Harris, stating that the former vice president backed the Biden administration's policies that hurt Alaska. A spokesperson for Sullivan said the message showed Harris and Peltola were on different teams. The incident highlighted Harris's continued influence within the Democratic Party and her potential interest in another presidential run, as she indicated she might pursue another campaign when asked by civil rights leader Al Sharpton. Peltola's team pointed to endorsements from the American Federation of Government Employees, the Alaska AFL‑CIO, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1547 and more than 10,000 volunteers, while the Republican campaign continued to connect her to Harris.
