At the Disney Entertainment Showcase during D23 2026, Lucasfilm president Dave Filoni said that Disney is not currently developing the Star Wars film “The Hunt for Ben Solo,” despite ongoing fan interest. The film, originally envisioned by Steven Soderbergh and starring Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, was shelved in 2023 after two years of development. Filoni made the statement in response to questions from Variety after the showcase. He said, “We’re not making that picture right now,” adding that the project remains on hold. He also told Deadline that the film’s status has not changed. Fans have campaigned for the movie’s revival, citing the unresolved Kylo Ren storyline from “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” Earlier, Soderbergh said the decision to cancel the project was “insane” and that Disney had received “two and a half years of free work” from him, Driver, and screenwriter Rebecca Blunt. He said he does not expect the film to be revived. Lucasfilm’s current leadership under Filoni suggests the project is unlikely to resume in the near term, though he noted the company is aware of fan demand. Meanwhile, Star Wars continues with the second season of “Ahsoka” scheduled for a January 2027 release and a trailer for the 2027 film “Starfighter” was shown at D23. The studio’s focus remains on upcoming Disney+ series and films, leaving the fate of “The Hunt for Ben Solo” unresolved.
