At the D23 2026 Disney Entertainment Showcase, Tetsuya Nomura, creator of Kingdom Hearts, announced that a Kingdom Hearts anime series will be produced for Disney+. In a post on X, he wrote, “Please let your imagination run wild.” The announcement came alongside a teaser for the next mainline Kingdom Hearts game and a preview of a world based on Disney Pixar’s Coco.

Kingdom Hearts games have been released at irregular intervals; the most recent mainline title, Kingdom Hearts 3, launched in 2019, 13 years after Kingdom Hearts 2. The next installment, Kingdom Hearts 4, is scheduled for 2027. The anime series has no announced release date.

Nomura said that production of the series has been confirmed and that he has consulted with the scenario and art teams, resulting in new character designs for the project. He noted that the single piece of key art released hints at a new Keyblade‑wielding character but provided no further specifics. Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family, said the series will bring the Kingdom Hearts world to life in a new format and will be “unmistakably Kingdom Hearts.” The series will be available on Disney+ when it launches.

Disney plans to hold a Deep Dive into Kingdom Hearts panel later this year, and further updates are expected.
