Five people were injured, one critically, in a shooting at Virginia State University early Saturday morning. Officers responded around 01:28 local time (05:28 GMT) outside a residence hall on the campus, about 20 miles south of Richmond.

Police said they believe more than one shooter was involved and that no arrests have been made. Investigators are reviewing surveillance video and have not identified any of the injured as suspects.

The university, which enrolls approximately 5,000 students, lifted a temporary lockdown after the incident. Chesterfield County Police are leading the investigation with assistance from local and campus police.

Classes for the new term are scheduled to begin on Monday, and dormitories reopened for returning students on Friday. Lt. James R. Lamb of the Chesterfield County Police Department stated that one victim was a student and another was under 18, and that the student victim has been discharged.

Authorities have not indicated a motive, and the investigation remains ongoing.
