Rockstar Games announced that Grand Theft Auto VI will launch on November 19, after years of development, leaks, and a marketing partnership with Netflix that will release a gameplay trailer to subscribers six hours before the public YouTube posting.

The game’s first trailer was leaked less than a day before its scheduled December 2023 debut, yet the official video accumulated nearly 290 million YouTube views. A separate leak in September 2022, involving 90 videos, resulted in a criminal conviction for the hacker responsible. Despite these incidents, Rockstar has maintained strong sales, with GTA V surpassing 230 million copies sold across PC and multiple console generations.

The partnership with Netflix represents a departure from traditional game marketing. Netflix executive Brandon Riegg said the collaboration leverages the unprecedented anticipation surrounding GTA VI. Internally, Rockstar has faced criticism over alleged union‑busting practices and multiple delays, according to Bloomberg. The company has also subpoenaed Microsoft and Discord in an effort to identify sources of recent unofficial gameplay clips shared on Discord and X. These actions have not diminished public interest, as incremental announcements such as cover‑art reveals continue to generate millions of views.

GTA VI arrives at a time when the gaming industry confronts rising hardware costs, declining physical‑media sales, and shifting platform strategies.
