The Leaving Maga organization says that leaving the Trump‑built movement is comparable to overcoming an addiction. Four former supporters have described their reasons for departing, including Stephania Messina, a member of the Quiverfull Christian church outside Detroit, Michigan. Messina, who had five children, said she was celebrated within her church community for her large family, which the church described using the metaphor of arrows shot from a quiver. She was encouraged to lead worship and Bible study groups for women and children, but was not permitted to discuss politics. "I’d been addicted to fear and rage," she said. The organization reports that the four defectors have explained their motivations for leaving the movement. Leaving Maga, a nonprofit based in the United States, was founded to help individuals exit the Trump‑built movement. The group says it plans to increase its outreach to others who are questioning the movement.
