Nintendo released an update for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe that adds support for the Nintendo Switch 2. Listed in Nintendo's patch notes, version 4.0.0 enables up to eight players in split-screen using up to seven controllers, requiring at least one Joy‑Con 2 or Switch 2 Pro Controller. CameraPlay is included, which requires a USB camera sold separately and can be used only during GameChat sessions. Player speed during races has been increased by the equivalent of one coin, and loading times have been shortened. The update also adds a 96‑Race endurance challenge for users with the Booster Course Pass. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe originally launched for the Nintendo Switch in April 2017.
