A recent Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll shows only 17 percent of Americans approve of President Donald Trump's handling of the cost of living, marking the lowest level recorded during his presidency. The survey, conducted from September 24 to 28 among 2,140 U.S. adults with a margin of error of 2.9 percentage points, comes as Trump had previously centered his 2024 campaign on pledges to reduce prices. About 70 percent of respondents, including roughly half of Republicans, said the president's policies have made affordability issues worse than expected. This perception contrasts with earlier sentiment, when 55 percent of Americans in 2022 believed affordability struggles were beyond his control. The findings reflect a shift in public attribution, with 65 percent now linking rising living costs directly to Trump's policies. His economic approval rating aligns with President Joe Biden's 28 percent approval on similar issues during the early stages of the pandemic in June 2022.
