Hypercall founder Jake Sylvestre has called for a redesign of options trading interfaces to lower barriers for retail participants and bring the user experience closer to that of perpetual futures markets. His remarks follow data showing the platform processed $536 million in notional volume during September, contributing to a cumulative $592 million since its June 1 launch. The majority of September activity stemmed from S&P 500-linked contracts, with repeat traders accounting for 93% of volume. Sylvestre noted that off-session spreads typically run 1.5 to 2 times wider than those observed during regular trading hours, and that pricing volatility tends to spike around earnings releases and Federal Reserve announcements. He argued that current options platforms require users to navigate hundreds of contracts, each demanding separate pricing inputs, which increases complexity and reduces liquidity. In contrast, perpetual markets aggregate depth across a single order book, enabling traders to express directional views with minimal decision points. To replicate this efficiency, Sylvestre proposed that platforms begin with a trader’s intended market outlook and automatically translate it into a defined-risk options position sized in dollar increments. He emphasized that market makers should be able to quote continuously and provide liquidity for large trades without relying on standing limit orders. A key component of his vision involves shared hedging mechanisms that allow options writers to offset exposure by holding perpetual positions on the same venue, thereby reducing margin requirements and collateral fragmentation. Sylvestre explained that a market maker shorting an Nvidia call could simultaneously hold a short perpetual on Hyperliquid, with both positions settled in USDC within a unified account structure. This approach would enable continuous hedging even when traditional equity markets are closed, using oracle-sourced reference prices from licensed providers such as trade.xyz. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to integrate volatility data from Block Scholes, improving pricing accuracy during periods when primary markets are inactive. Regulatory considerations remain part of the discussion, with Hypercall submitting proposals to the SEC regarding the classification of equity-linked perpetuals and pre-IPO derivative products. The platform blocks access from restricted jurisdictions and works with compliance advisers to align with evolving frameworks. While no official launch date has been announced for broader U.S. market participation, the company continues to expand its product suite, including options on assets such as SpaceX and Alibaba, which were introduced during September following their underlying perpetual contracts' availability. The platform's incentive program, which offers HYPE rewards to active participants, appears to be driving concentrated trading activity among a core group of users.
