OpenAI is rolling out a new visual interface for ChatGPT called Intelligent UI, beginning Wednesday with a new GPT-6 model. The update integrates interactive visuals directly into conversations, including tappable buttons, custom calculators, editable graphs, and interactive charts designed to support user interaction.
The company states the primary aim of Intelligent UI is to simplify the learning of complex topics while enhancing accessibility and usability. During a briefing with journalists, OpenAI demonstrated how the updated chatbot can generate diagrams and visual aids to clarify abstract concepts. Product manager Aarush Selvan noted that while ChatGPT has largely functioned as a text-based tool, the company seeks to expand its utility for practical tasks such as planning meals, organizing travel, or exploring educational subjects.
Selvan illustrated the feature’s potential by describing a scenario in which a student asked ChatGPT to explore how an airplane wing generates lift. The system responded with multiple diagrams explaining aerodynamic principles. Additional examples shown included visual guides for recipes, bicycle mechanics, hiking itineraries, and personal finance calculations.
Intelligent UI will be adjustable, allowing users to reduce visual elements if desired. The feature will be available globally to Pro, Plus, Business, and Enterprise subscribers immediately, with access extending to free and lower-tier Go users by Thursday. The rollout coincides with the deployment of the GPT-6 model across these tiers.
