Sui recorded a peak throughput of 40.6 million transactions per second during a live offchain test that simulated AI agent activity. The demonstration, held at Sui Basecamp in Singapore, involved more than 10,000 tunnels and was designed to stress‑test infrastructure for rapid interactions between autonomous software agents. CertiK acted as an independent auditor, reviewing the test data and preparing a detailed report that was expected in the coming days. The foundation said the result surpassed a 20 million TPS target set for the event and exceeded the 6.1 million TPS recorded in a July test that used the same channel architecture.
The test measured activity that occurred inside programmable channels, with transactions only submitted to the Sui mainnet when a channel was opened or closed. More than 10,000 tunnels were opened on mainnet, while the bulk of interactions remained offchain, allowing participants to execute repeated operations without submitting each one individually to the blockchain. Closed tunnels were cosigned by participants and could be independently verified onchain, according to the foundation’s description.
Sui’s chief product officer, Adeniyi Abiodun of Mysten Labs, led the demonstration and explained that the capacity test was intended to support "millions of AI agents" performing transactions at a pace beyond human capability. He noted that while no market requires 6 million or 40 million transactions per second, agents operate at such speeds. The test built on a September 2025 partnership with Google’s Agentic Payments Protocol, an open‑source standard that enables AI agents to make payments on users’ behalf. Under that collaboration, Sui provides programmable payment infrastructure for autonomous agents, supporting use cases such as paywall access and automated purchases.
The foundation also highlighted its USDsui stablecoin, launched on March 4, which is issued by Bridge, a Stripe subsidiary, through its Open Issuance platform. USDsui is designed for payments, cross‑border transfers, and remittances within the Sui ecosystem, and it supports functions such as lending, trading, and liquidity provision on decentralized finance platforms. The foundation reported that more than $111 billion in stablecoin transfers occurred on Sui during January 2026, reflecting the scale of activity on the network.
For U.S. investors, February coverage documented the launch of staking exchange‑traded funds tied to SUI, with Canary Capital’s SUIS trading on Nasdaq and Grayscale’s GSUI listed on NYSE Arca. Both funds began trading on February 18 and hold SUI tokens directly, with staking rewards incorporated into the funds’ net asset values. Coinbase announced SUI staking for customers in July, offering a one‑token minimum and estimated annual rewards of 1.4% to 3.3%, subject to location restrictions.
The October throughput demonstration was audited by CertiK, which will examine proofs, execution logs, journals, and supporting evidence before publishing its findings. The test underscores Sui’s focus on scaling infrastructure for AI‑driven financial activity while maintaining onchain verification for channel closure.
