WhatsApp is extending its Liquid Glass visual overhaul to the video playback component of its app, according to a report by WABetaInfo. The redesign, first spotted in testing in August 2025, began broader deployment this week, introducing a translucent progress bar and updated control bar that mirror the aesthetic applied to other parts of the platform.
The new video player features a floating progress bar with rounded corners and a glass-like translucency that adapts to light and dark modes. In light mode the bar appears against a white background; in dark mode it adopts a darker backdrop. This visual refresh aligns with earlier Liquid Glass updates rolled out to the iPad and Mac versions of WhatsApp in June and July 2026 respectively, and follows earlier incremental updates to the iPhone interface.
Rollout has been gradual. While some users have already encountered the new design, many continue to see the legacy interface, as is typical with WhatsApp’s staged deployments. Meta has not announced a specific timeline for full availability.
The update reflects a broader effort to modernize WhatsApp’s user experience with a design language first introduced alongside iOS 26, emphasizing visual consistency and a more immersive interaction model across the app’s various functions.
