NVIDIA's Vera CPU demonstrated faster deployment of agentic AI sandboxes than AMD's EPYC "Zen 5" processors in tests conducted by the Daytona runtime team. The benchmark measured how quickly CPU architectures could bring online thousands of isolated environments needed for AI-generated code execution and autonomous agent workflows. Results showed Vera achieving 1,000 sandboxes online in 10.8 seconds and 2,000 sandboxes in 27.4 seconds, while AMD's EPYC 9755 required 88.4 seconds for the same 1,000-sandbox deployment. Even the higher-clocked EPYC 9575F chip needed 32.3 seconds to reach 1,000 sandboxes. Vera's throughput peaked at 13.3 completed agent jobs per second and remained stable through 2,000 concurrent sandboxes, outperforming both EPYC variants. The test also revealed Vera required 15% fewer machines than EPYC 9755 and 38% fewer than EPYC 9575F to sustain equivalent workloads, potentially reducing infrastructure costs for large-scale AI deployments. "The number that interests me isn't the peak. It's what happens after the machine is full," said Vedran Jukić, Co-founder & CTO of Daytona. "Vera keeps running agent workloads at almost the same rate all the way to 2,000 sandboxes. It slows down a little but stays stable instead of falling apart. Thousands of agents on a single machine, and Vera keeps them alive. That's what matters." The findings highlight how CPU architecture choices impact the scalability of AI factories, where each agent requires unique filesystem access, tools, and isolated environments. While AMD plans to release Zen 6 EPYC chips optimized for agentic AI workloads, NVIDIA's Vera currently holds a performance lead in both deployment speed and sustained throughput for large-scale sandbox orchestration.
