Senator Darline Graham, a Republican appointed to fill the late Senator Lindsey Graham's seat, will debate Democratic challenger Dr. Annie Andrews and Libertarian candidate Kasie Whitener on Sunday evening.
The debate is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Eastern Time and will be streamed live by South Carolina Educational Television, which is hosting the event.
Graham, who is the sister of the late Senator Lindsey Graham, entered the race after being appointed by Governor Henry McMaster to complete the remainder of her brother's term, which was set to end in January. Former President Donald Trump had encouraged her to run for a full term in the seat that Lindsey Graham held for more than two decades.
While South Carolina has traditionally been a reliably Republican state, recent indicators suggest the contest is becoming more competitive. The Cook Political Report shifted its assessment of the race in late September, downgrading it from "Solid Republican" to "Likely Republican."
The debate offers voters a direct opportunity to compare the positions and rhetoric of the three candidates vying to represent the state in the U.S. Senate.
