A Visa survey released on October 9, 2026, projects that nearly half of the Asia-Pacific region’s 2.5 billion consumers could adopt stablecoins for everyday transactions by 2031. The study found that 46% of respondents indicated they are likely to use stablecoins within the next five years, up from 16% who reported using them in the preceding 12 months. Only 6% of participants demonstrated an accurate understanding of how stablecoins function, while 49% believed they could be used solely for buying or selling cryptocurrencies. Concerns about fraud and scams emerged as the primary barrier to adoption among aware but non‑users. Visa’s head of digital currencies for Asia Pacific, Nischint Sanghavi, noted that consumer interest is expanding across everyday spending, travel and cross‑border transfers, creating a sizable opportunity for payment providers. The company is expanding its stablecoin settlement network and collaborating with partners to develop local‑currency stablecoins for continuous foreign‑exchange settlement in markets such as Hong Kong, South Korea and Japan.
