The Australian government has released a draft bill that would allow automatic exchange of crypto tax information between jurisdictions. The Treasury Laws Amendment Bill 2026: Tax information reporting is open for public comment until Oct. 28. It seeks to embed the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework into domestic law and create a national crypto reporting system, according to the Treasury. Australia first indicated its intent to adopt the framework in November 2023 and conducted a consultation in late 2024. The 2025–26 Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook later confirmed plans to implement both the OECD framework and a local crypto reporting regime, with cross-border crypto tax data sharing anticipated to commence in 2028. The OECD endorsed the framework in August 2022 to curb tax evasion linked to digital assets. Related discussions on crypto platform regulations are ongoing, with a broader rollout expected by 2027.
