Intero Biosystems emerged as the winner of TechCrunch Disrupt Startup Battlefield 2026 after a three-day competition in San Francisco featuring 20 selected startups. The final round narrowed to five finalists — Apate, Flox Intelligence, Intero Biosystems, Industrial Next, and Satlyt — who presented live demos to a panel of judges including Alexa von Tobel of Inspired Capital, Chi-Hua Chien of Goodwater Capital, Dayna Grayson of Construct Capital, Karl Alomar of M13, and Stacy Brown-Philpot of Cherryrock Capital. Judges evaluated each pitch based on innovation, scalability, and market potential before selecting Intero Biosystems as the top contender.

The winning company, based in Denver and spun out of the University of Michigan, develops 1mm-scale human intestinal organoids — lab-grown tissue models that replicate gut function. These organoids enable pharmaceutical, biotech, food, and chemical firms to test drug interactions and compound effects in a controlled environment prior to human trials. Intero Biosystems markets its primary product, GastroScreen, to organizations requiring preclinical testing platforms that reduce reliance on animal models or late-stage clinical failures.

Apate, an Australian startup founded by Dali Kaafar during research at Macquarie University, placed as runner-up. The company deploys AI-driven agents that simulate vulnerable online personas to engage scammers, waste their resources, and gather intelligence on fraud tactics. Clients access an analytics portal to monitor scam patterns targeting their users, brands, or employees.

Other finalists included Satlyt, an enterprise platform for real-time supply chain anomaly detection; Industrial Next, which builds AI-powered automation tools for manufacturing; and Flox Intelligence, offering automated cybersecurity response systems. All five finalists joined a lineage of Startup Battlefield alumni such as Trello, Discord, and Cloudflare, with the cohort collectively raising over $30 billion and achieving more than 200 exits since the program’s inception.

Intero Biosystems’ victory highlights growing investor confidence in organoid technology as a bridge between cellular models and clinical applications. The $100,000 prize and global visibility from Disrupt are expected to accelerate partnerships with drug developers and expand its footprint in preclinical testing markets.
