A recent report indicates that Ubisoft is considering staff reductions at several of its German development locations. According to Game File, the company has initiated discussions with the Works Council regarding a voluntary departure program that could impact teams in Düsseldorf, Berlin and Mainz, with approximately 100 positions potentially affected. Ubisoft confirmed to the outlet that the proposal emphasizes voluntary buyouts rather than compulsory terminations, though the specific terms remain under negotiation and no final agreement has been finalized. Internal sources suggest that Düsseldorf, the largest of the three sites, may experience more than half of the planned reductions. The company has not disclosed the full scope of the proposed cuts. Mainz, known for leading development on the Anno series, is among the locations under review, while Berlin and Düsseldorf primarily function as support studios for titles such as Rainbow Six Siege, Rayman Legends Retold and The Settlers. In a staff communication, managing director Benedikt Grindel stated that the adjustments aim to recalibrate each studio’s strategic focus and operational capabilities. Düsseldorf had previously undergone a significant workforce reduction in 2025 as part of an earlier restructuring cycle. The developments in Germany follow additional headcount adjustments across Ubisoft’s global operations earlier this year, including proposed layoffs in Singapore and the planned closure of RedLynx. The company has been gradually scaling back its workforce over recent years as part of broader cost-reduction efforts and in response to a more cautious release schedule. KitGuru reported on the ongoing restructuring activities across Ubisoft’s studio network.
