NVIDIA introduced its DLSS 5 Neural Rendering model alongside NBA 2K27, promising performance gains over previous versions. Early community tests indicate the updated model can deliver up to 40% higher frame rates in unsupported games.
The new version, identified as DLL nvngx_dlssnr.dll 310.9.16.0, replaces the prior 310.8.x release in NBA 2K27's October 16 update. NVIDIA states the model reduces size by 24%, lowers VRAM usage at 4K by 20%, and speeds Neural Rendering processing by up to 2x. The company projects these changes could yield 40% higher frame rates in NBA 2K27 with minimal visual impact.
Modders have begun testing the model in games without official DLSS 5 integration. X user Gaming Optimized compared results in Forza Horizon 6 on an RTX 4060 system using identical settings (100% intensity, stock resolution). The new model produced nearly 40% higher performance with no immediately apparent quality differences. Similar tests in Resident Evil Requiem showed approximately 30% performance improvements under comparable conditions.
Detro, testing on an RTX 4080 SUPER at 4K with Path Tracing, DLSS Performance mode, and four-frame Multi Frame Generation, reported frame rates rising from 108 FPS to 150 FPS — a 39% increase. The tester noted softer colors and a less aggressive Neural Rendering effect compared to the previous version. These results came from an experimental fork that enables DLSS 5 Neural Rendering injection into unsupported titles, extending compatibility to older RTX hardware.
The updated DLL includes two Neural Rendering presets: Preset A replicates the prior model, while Preset B uses the newer optimized version and activates by default. These presets differ from DLSS Frame Generation settings. Community tests remain preliminary; visual variations, compatibility hurdles, and performance inconsistencies may emerge with broader use.
Despite DLSS 5's historically high performance demands, the new model shows potential to make Neural Rendering more practical for PC gaming. Early results suggest the technology could overcome previous adoption barriers, particularly as modders expand its reach beyond officially supported titles and hardware.
