Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson announced he is personally creating a new programming language in collaboration with Lucas Rosa, a software engineer at Input Output Global.
Hoskinson said the language would integrate transaction intents, proof-carrying data and Groth16 proofs to enable applications to execute user requests and verify conditions efficiently. He emphasized that the tool would allow developers to specify desired outcomes without detailing implementation steps.
The language would support three technical components: transaction intents, which let users define goals such as token swaps contingent on specific conditions; proof-carrying data, which attaches cryptographic evidence to information to demonstrate compliance with rules; and Groth16, a proof system that generates compact verifiable proofs without exposing underlying data.
Hoskinson noted that this approach differs from typical founder involvement after a network reaches scale, as he continues to personally contribute to infrastructure development despite leading a large engineering team.
Cardano currently uses Plutus, a smart contract platform built on Haskell, and Aiken, a language developed by Input Output Global for smart contracts. Midnight, a privacy-focused blockchain under the same company, employs Compact, a language designed for handling confidential data.
The founder has not disclosed the new language’s name, released public code, or provided a timeline for developer access. No official announcements regarding deployment or adoption have been made.
