A new modification for Red Dead Redemption 2 introduces a system of persistent rivalries that alter how non‑player characters interact with the player. Developed by modder nicklovin99, the enRAGE mod assigns names, backstories, family ties and personality traits to NPCs, allowing them to remember encounters with Arthur Morgan and react based on those memories. Actions such as robbery, insult, assault or horse theft can transform an NPC into a personal nemesis, escalating hostility from resentment to lethal pursuit. Survivors may return with injuries or scars, and relatives or allies may seek revenge, creating chains of retaliation that extend beyond individual confrontations.
The mod expands the game’s faction dynamics by incorporating eight outlaw groups and the U.S. Army, each with leaders, officers, camps, supplies and territorial claims. Conflicts between factions can erupt independently of player involvement; eliminating an officer may shift leadership, while attacks on camps or supply lines degrade a faction’s combat capability. This structure mirrors the Nemesis system popularized by Middle‑earth: Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War, but applies it to a historical Western setting.
Additional features include the ability to interrogate captured enemies for intelligence on leaders, hideouts and resources, and to negotiate feuds via telegram. The mod also maintains an in‑game chronicle that records world events, some of which appear as local newspaper entries.
enRAGE remains in early access, and its creator cautions that the complexity of interconnected systems may produce bugs. The modification requires the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 and is intended for use in Story Mode rather than Red Dead Online.
