Liquid Swords, a Swedish game development studio, has confirmed its closure following bankruptcy proceedings. Founder Christofer Sundberg stated directly that the company is shutting down, citing financial insolvency.

The studio's crime-themed game Samson launched on PC in April, with console versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S arriving in September. Sundberg noted the console release performed significantly better than the PC version, but described this improvement as insufficient to prevent the studio's shutdown.

At the time of closure, Liquid Swords employed 27 staff members. Reports indicated employees had not received wages for two months, though Swedish labor regulations would ensure these outstanding payments are settled through bankruptcy proceedings.

Sundberg reflected on the studio's operational philosophy, describing it as a "zero-nonsense" approach aimed at eliminating industry distractions such as excessive meetings and unnecessary stakeholder involvement. He had previously criticized modern game development for prioritizing non-essential elements over quality and developer well-being.

Despite the closure, Sundberg indicated ongoing interest in supporting the Samson project. In a public statement, he expressed pride in the team's work and mentioned discussions about potential continued development.

The company's history includes Sundberg's prior role as co-founder of Avalanche Studios, known for the Just Cause series, where he spent over a decade before establishing Liquid Swords. His public commentary often addresses broader industry trends, including concerns about sustainability in game development practices.
