At least 27 people died and 63 were injured, including 22 in critical condition, after a fire at the Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao bar and restaurant in Bangkok late Sunday night. Officials said the fire spread quickly, reaching the ceiling and filling the venue with smoke. Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said the fire exit may have been obstructed, contributing to the casualties. Witnesses heard screaming and saw flames emerge from the entrance. Laotian tourist Kan Kutirat posted video showing patrons with shirts on fire fleeing the building. He said he attempted to rescue one woman before leaving. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited the site and said musicians reported smoke from a circuit breaker near the stage, followed by a power outage and an explosion. He added that many victims moved toward toilets with no exits, likely due to panic. Police said the fire was brought under control by 2 a.m. local time. The incident has revived concerns about Thailand's enforcement of health and safety regulations in bars and nightclubs, after previous deadly fires in 2022 and 2009.
