U.S. Senator Ashley Moody co-sponsored a Senate resolution to recognize lineworkers who restore electric service after hurricanes and other emergencies. The measure cites the essential and dangerous nature of lineworkers' work, referencing the response to Hurricanes Helene and Milton in 2024. Moody said during a ceremony that crews from Florida and other states worked around the clock in hazardous conditions to restore electricity. As of 2025, Florida employed roughly 6,400 lineworkers, and about 50,000 lineworkers from across the United States assisted in recovery after the two storms. Duke Energy Florida reported that 95% of customers, or about 1 million people, had power restored within four days after Hurricane Milton, while Florida Power & Light restored service to approximately 2 million customers within five days. The resolution is pending Senate action and would formally honor the contributions of lineworkers during natural disasters.
