Andrew and Tristan Tate, dual United States‑United Kingdom citizens, were taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service in Miami on Saturday under a sealed warrant, as British authorities pursue their extradition on rape and sex‑trafficking charges. The brothers, who promoted a message of male dominance and misogyny on social media, moved to Romania in 2016 and were detained there in 2022 on allegations that they lured women for sexual exploitation; they left Romania in 2023 and traveled to Florida on a private jet. British prosecutors announced that they are seeking extradition on charges alleging the brothers raped and trafficked women between 2010 and 2017, and added 38 new charges relating to four additional alleged victims. Their defense attorney, Joseph McBride, said he could not speak with his clients and described the new accusations as "filth and slander" intended to interfere with defamation lawsuits the brothers have filed in the United States. Andrew Tate, 39, first gained public attention as a contestant on the British reality show "Big Brother" in 2016 before being removed after a video appeared to show him assaulting a woman. Both brothers have denied any wrongdoing and claim their statements were taken out of context. The U.K. Crown Prosecution Services said the case includes charges of rape, human trafficking, profiting from prostitution, and 19 counts related to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography. Assistant Chief Constable Karena Thomas of the Bedfordshire Police, which investigated the case, said there is no place for male violence against women and girls and that authorities will continue to support victims and investigate reports. The brothers are expected to appear before a Miami federal judge early next week, and the outcome of the extradition request remains pending.
