The 2017 Japanese zombie comedy One Cut of the Dead is now streaming on Prime Video. The film, which premiered in Japan in 2017, earned a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and grossed more than 1,000 times its original budget of 3 million yen (approximately $25,000). It was produced as a single-take project by a low-budget crew at an abandoned water filtration plant in rural Japan. The story follows a group of independent filmmakers shooting a low-budget zombie movie titled True Fear. Director Higurashi, seeking to improve the production, attempts to summon real zombies using black magic. The lead actress, Chinatsu, confronts the undead while the director continues filming despite the danger. The movie received two sequels, including a COVID-19 screenlife project called Mission: Remote and a sequel titled In Hollywood that appears as an extra on the 2023 Blu-ray release. A French remake, Final Cut, released in 2022, is also available on multiple platforms. While the film's initial premise may seem conventional, its second half provides explanations for earlier events and twists. Viewers are advised that spoilers may diminish the experience. It remains accessible on Prime Video for viewers interested in the film.
