Byron Donalds’ campaign reported raising $103 million through July 17, including a $10 million donation from Ken Griffin, the founder of Citadel. Griffin has previously contributed $2.5 million to a super PAC supporting Senator Ashley Moody and has backed Ron DeSantis’ re‑election campaign and the defeat of the 2024 adult‑use marijuana amendment. Donalds, a three‑term congressman from Naples and a supporter of former President Donald Trump, is running for governor. According to campaign filings, Donalds transferred more than $92 million to the Friends of Byron Donalds political committee and kept over $10 million in his campaign account, giving him nearly $70 million in cash on hand as of July 17. During the same week, his official account received 1,433 donations totaling more than $440,000. Lt. Gov. Jay Collins, a DeSantis appointee, raised just over $75,000, ending the week with about $900,000. Former speaker Paul Renner raised nearly $40,000, leaving him with roughly $1.5 million. James Fishback’s Florida First PAC and campaign account together brought in more than $113,000, while donor George O’Neill and his wife contributed $106,000. Democratic nominee David Jolly raised $1.45 million during the week, with almost all of it hard money, and ended the period with $3.5 million cash on hand. The University of North Florida’s Public Opinion Research Lab poll released this week showed Donalds leading Jolly by five points, a margin similar to recent polling averages. Political analyst Larry Sabato’s Crystal Ball project now rates the Florida gubernatorial race as a likely Republican win, up from a previously safe designation for Republicans.
