Apple announced four new features for Apple Pay in iOS 27, including a redesigned checkout interface, a rewards integration with American Express, a Tap to Share capability for in‑store purchases, and the ability to reload debit card balances within Apple Pay. iOS 27 is available in beta to developers and public testers and will be released to all users this fall. The redesign lets users swipe between linked cards on the main checkout screen and tap a card to view a grid of all cards and details such as rewards, balances and pay‑later options. Through a partnership with American Express, Apple added a “Use Rewards” option that allows cardholders to apply Membership Rewards points to purchases; points are valued at 0.7 cents each, so 10,000 points equal $70. The Tap to Share feature, an extension of Tap to Pay on iPhone, lets merchants share payment information with customers via a tap, enabling the exchange of contact details, shipping addresses and loyalty data, and allows shoppers to view their basket in real time before completing payment with Apple Pay. Later this year, users will be able to add money to supported debit cards directly through Apple Pay in Apple Wallet or during checkout. The updates are intended to increase Apple Pay’s adoption among retailers as the features roll out this fall.
