Marvel Studios announced that Avengers: Secret Wars will be the only theatrical MCU movie scheduled for 2027, with its premiere set for December 17, 2027, after the December 2026 debut of Avengers: Doomsday, creating a 12-month gap between the two films.
The statement was made at the San Diego Comic‑Con 2026 Hall H panel. Kevin Feige said the studio aims to prioritize quality over the number of releases, noting that a crowded schedule could dilute the impact of its flagship franchise. The comment follows Disney's 2024 decision to limit its output to two or three films and two television series per year.
Feige explained that the 2027 interval allows time to develop future projects such as Ghost Rider and Black Panther III, which are slated for 2028. He added that Secret Wars functions as a narrative foundation for subsequent content rather than a reboot of the MCU.
Other announced titles for 2027 include Sony's Spider‑Man: Beyond the Spider‑Verse, scheduled for June 18, 2027, and the third season of Daredevil: Born Again, also planned for 2027.
The schedule follows a series of releases in recent years, including Deadpool & Wolverine in July 2024, The Marvels in 2023, and Captain America: Brave New World in February 2025, each spaced roughly six to eight months apart. The studio previously experienced periods with four movies in a single calendar year, prompting the shift toward fewer releases.
