Andrea Shaw, 24, was charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of her twin children, Tyson and Dallas Shaw, in May 2025 in Payette, Idaho. The indictment filed a year later alleged that she suffocated the children. A judge revoked Shaw’s $2 million bond on July 14 after she gave birth to a daughter via C‑section, ruling that she posed a risk to the newborn. Shaw was taken into custody on June 29, five days after the births, and is being held without bond pending trial.

The deaths occurred after the twins received routine vaccinations at their 18‑month appointment on April 23, 2025. Andrea Shaw told a Children’s Health Defense interview that the children appeared ill after the vaccines and that she and her mother‑in‑law, Wendy Shaw, expressed concerns about the flu shot. According to the family’s affidavit, the twins showed blue‑tinged lips, green diarrhea, and weight loss within a day of the appointment. They were treated with Tylenol and sent home, but continued to have diarrhea and vomiting before being found dead on May 1.

Prosecutors said investigators found no medical evidence linking the deaths to vaccination. A forensic pathologist and three physicians concluded that the symptoms were consistent with suffocation. Detectives also noted that the twins’ room temperature occasionally exceeded 100 °F but determined that heat was not a factor because the children had survived similar temperatures previously and the time of death did not correspond with the temperature peak.

Shaw’s defense attorney, Joseph Filicetti, said she will plead not guilty and that the defense may argue that an adverse reaction to the flu vaccine contributed to the deaths. He noted that the family’s views on vaccines changed after the incident. The prosecutor, Michael Duke, requested that the bond remain in place, citing the alleged risk to her newborn.

Children’s Health Defense described Shaw as a “martyr” for the movement. Mary Holland, the group’s CEO, said the case tests whether the legal system will consider vaccine safety concerns. Steve Kirsch, founder of the Vaccine Safety Research Foundation, posted on social media that the case could deter parents from vaccinating. The group has offered to assist with an independent autopsy, though a pathologist said tissue samples were unavailable.

The case has also attracted attention from other anti-vaccine figures, including nurse Angela Marie Wulbrecht, who has been involved in the family’s medical decisions since the deaths. Wulbrecht has previously linked her own alleged vaccine injury to her involvement in the Shaw case. The family faced death threats and relocated to Boise, Idaho, after law enforcement suggested possible wrongdoing.

The trial is expected to proceed later in 2025. Until then, the legal outcome remains undetermined.
