Democrats see a chance to flip a U.S.
Democrats see a chance to flip a U.S. House seat in Ohio as mounting allegations of domestic abuse against Republican Rep. Max Miller raise questions about his electability.
Miller, who won the 7th District with 51% of the vote two years ago, faces accusations from his ex‑wife, Emily Moreno, that he physically abused and threatened her; a recent court filing alleges he threatened and assaulted her attorney, and a separate lawsuit alleges violations of a confidential settlement with his former girlfriend, Stephanie Grisham.
House Democratic leaders, including Rep. Shontel Brown and the House Democratic Women’s Caucus, have called for Miller’s resignation and an ethics investigation; Republicans, including Gov. Mike DeWine, have defended Miller, saying the matter should be decided by voters, while Trump advisers monitor the situation.
Miller has raised more money than Democratic challenger Brian Poindexter, who is endorsed by Sen. Bernie Sanders, but Democrats are preparing to allocate additional resources if the race becomes competitive.
The outcome will depend on whether the allegations affect voter turnout and campaign funding before the November election.
